The Swim England Online Community FAQs

The Swim England Online Community gives members the chance to have their say and help shape future opportunities and experiences.

Find out everything you need to know with our FAQs here:

This community is a vibrant and engaging online platform for members of Swim England from across the organisation. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in various activities designed to gather insights, provide feedback on initiatives and share your experiences with Swim England. This is an exciting opportunity to have your voice heard and make a difference to the future of Swim England.

We want to provide a more user-friendly way for our members to provide feedback to us. An online community will allow our members to have a voice and for us to listen to them. Members will be involved in the decisions that Swim England are making.

Any member over the age of 16 can join. All disciplines are covered and it does not matter if you have multiple roles in aquatics – all roles are included. If you are a parent of a child who is under 16, you can join and be on the community as a parent as there may be opportunities for you and your child to complete some activities together.

  1. Sign up process – there are some questions here so we can check you are eligible and to understand what role you play in aquatics.
  2. Read and agree to the terms and conditions.
  3. Welcome task – this is a simple activity to get you used to using the community.
  4. Respond to periodic activities – each will have a completion date, usually at least a week.

As a member of this community, you’ll be invited to take part in online activities and tasks varying in length and commitment – from quick polls to more in-depth discussions and feedback sessions. We’ll be sure to give clear instructions and time commitment for each activity. There is no minimum expectation from you as all tasks are voluntary. While we might ask you to participate, and send reminders from time to time, it’s completely up to you whether or not you decide to take part.

You are likely to receive between one and five activities per month. There are currently ten different activities, these include simple surveys, diaries, image tasks and video activities.

Each activity will vary. Some will be very short and may just involve you uploading an image, others may be longer and involve logging in for a focus group. Some may also vary depending on your time. For example, if we start a discussion topic you can contribute as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

In addition to your fellow community members, you’ll be speaking with our moderators. Throughout your time in the community, our moderators might have some questions for you, and will chat to you in more detail. We want you to know that this is a safe space and we encourage you to share your honest opinions, stories and experiences. The community is designed as a safe space for open and honest dialogue. We kindly ask that you help us to ensure a positive and productive environment by upholding a high standard of conduct, including respectful communication and no use of offensive language. The community is collaborative in nature, so let’s try to get to know one another! We encourage you to view the responses of your fellow peers and comment if you feel inclined

We encourage people to join the community as it’s an opportunity for them to have their say. As well as dedicated research activities that will affect our current projects, there will be opportunities for members to raise topics that are important to them.

Insight forms an important part of any project at Swim England. The feedback we gain from members on the community will be vital in this process. We will ensure that we are presenting back to the community so they can see the impact and difference that their time and insights is having at Swim England.

When joining the community all members sign the terms and conditions. This informs members that sharing of any content outside of the community is not allowed and should be kept confidential. As such, all feedback gained from members will only be used and shared for the purposes of the research project it was collected for. It will not be shared externally. Participants may be contacted retrospectively if we want to share their great insights in another way. However, participants are under no obligation to do so.

We are working with an agency to deliver this community. The community itself is very user friendly. It can be used on a phone, tablet or laptop. The agency is here to support with any technical difficulties or questions around accessing and using the community. If you have any issues, please email [email protected].
