Swim England

A nation swimming

Sport England 2017-21 funding awards announced

Swim England will receive £10.5 million of Government and National Lottery funding to help continue to develop and grow swimming, Sport England has announced today.

The funding is over four years and is in addition to the £750,000 awarded to support Diving and the £850,000 to support Para-swimming that was announced in December.

Jane Nickerson, interim CEO of Swim England, said: “We are pleased that Sport England has once again shown their confidence in us to lead and develop our sport.

“Our vision is of a nation swimming and we are committed to doing all we can to encourage people to take part and enjoy all our aquatic sports.

“This investment will help us to continue to support our clubs, athletes and volunteers, as well as deliver new programmes to help people stay healthy and active through swimming.”

The funding will be used to support a range of programmes and initiatives. This includes the roll-out of the new Start programmes to help clubs and operators offer free diving, synchronised swimming and water polo taster sessions to the public.

Another focus will be to work closer with GPs to help get swimming recognised as a valuable complement to medical treatment and implement programmes to help swimmers with dementia, older people learning to swim and disabled swimmers.

Seven other sport NGBs also received news of their funding today. Click here for more details.
