Youngsters set huge lifetime best times during session two in Sheffield

There were some huge lifetime best times during session two of the GoCardless Swim England National Summer Meet 2024.

Bromley’s Hayden Sanders was one of the stand out performers after he improved his best ever time by almost 42 seconds in the Open/Male 13 Years 1500m Freestyle.

He clinched the national title for his age group in a time of 17:25.67 after his previous best, set at the Crawley Spring L1 Open Meet LC 2024 in April, stood at 18:07.44.

His gold medal-winning time also saw Sanders finish just 0.99 ahead of Jack Militis (17:26.66) of Tigers Jersey who took home silver.

Northumberland and Durham’s Archie McGuire was awarded the bronze medal after finishing third.

York City swimmer Alexander Tew was another who smashed his lifetime best after clocking in at 17:07.13 to win gold in the 14/15 Years age group.

The 15-year-old lowered his time by more than 16 seconds after setting a 17:23.13 at the City of Sheffield Team Steel Meet 2024 just over a month ago.

Joining Tew on the podium was Barnet Copthall swimmer, Thomas Croke, and Basildon Phoenix’s Conor Mint, who finished in second and third respectively.

Croke set a time of 17:11.77 while Mint made it home in a time of 17:14.57 to earn their medals.

It was close between the gold and silver medal positions in the 16 Years age groups.

Just 0.77 separated Daniel Belsey and Jackson Schwiderski, with Belsey finishing the fastest of the pair and also improving his best time by around 15.5 seconds.

The Hatfield swimmer set a time of 16:52.97 and Wycombe’s Schwiderski managed 16:53.74 for silver. Taking home the bronze medal was City of Liverpool’s Aidan Kearney.

Mount Kelly’s Philip Cinpoes and Birmingham University’s Daniel Cox were victorious in their respective age groups.

In the 17 Years event, Cinpoes knocked more than six seconds off his personal best as he went under the 17-minute mark for only the second time so far.

He saw off competition from Team Ipswich swimmer, Patch Robinson (16:52.01) and Northampton’s Manav Mistry (16:54.65) to win the title.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Cox went three seconds under his best for gold in the 18 Years and over age group.

His time of 16:14.17 saw him finish narrowly ahead of Portsmouth Northsea swimmer Jack Booth Rudd (16:15.44) in second, with Corby’s Samuel Cooke (16:18.82) completing the podium.
