For the first time in the history of a major multi-sport Games, there was an equal number of medal events for men and women across all sports.

The Gold Coast 2018 Games  had the largest integrated sports programme in Commonwealth Games history, comprising of 18 sports and seven para sports.

There were 29 countries who claimed gold in all events, with medals shared between 43 countries.

Kate Jones, the Minister for the Commonwealth Games, said: “Twelve months ago, we watched the Commonwealth’s best athletes from 71 nations and territories, representing one third of the world’s population, compete.

“We cheered on as para-athletes competed in an integrated competition, and as women competed for an equal number of medals as their male counterparts.”
