SE London Region Open Water Championships 2024- Urgent Information

Cancellation Statement

Since being informed that the lake at Merchant Taylors’ School is closed due to water quality issues, the Open Water Team at Swim England London have been exploring a number of alternative options which included attempting to find a replacement venue to host our 2024 Regional Open Water Swimming Championship.

Following the completion of these comprehensive investigations, unfortunately we have no other option open to us than to cancel our Regional Open Water Championship this year.

The Region recognises that this is an extremely disappointing outcome for all swimmers who registered for the event but the health, safety and well-being of our athletes must be  paramount at all times and this is reflected in all decisions made.

The East Region have very kindly offered to accommodate those Age Group swimmers registered for national qualifying events (please see the following table for information on the relevant age groups and distances).

Please note that swimmers eligible to enter must be members of a London Affiliated Club.

The East Region Open Water Regional Championship event is taking place on July 14^th at Whittingham Lakes, Norwich, NR14 8TR.

The first four finishers from London Affiliated Clubs in each of the National Age Groups (13 years, 14 years, 15 years, 16 years, 17/18 years, 19+ years) and competition category’s (Female and Open/Male) will be invited to swim at the National Age Group Championship 2024.

Swimmers’ who are eligible to compete at the East Region event at Whittingham Lakes must inform the Open Water Team of their intention to compete by close of business on the June 27^th. Please email [email protected].

The South East Region has also informed us that they also have spaces to accommodate some masters swimmers. The event is taking place this weekend, Sunday June 30^th at Mercers Park, Redhill RH1 4EU. Please contact the promoter of the event at [email protected] for more information.

Swim England London Region will be refunding the entry fee to those swimmers who are not eligible to compete at the East Region’s events and to those who are eligible to compete, but who choose not to travel.

If you have not received your refund payment within 28 days of submission please contact the region.
