Yasmin determined to come back for more after maiden Olympic Games success

Yasmin Harper said her maiden Olympic Games has given her the determination to come back for more – after narrowly missing out on a second medal of Paris 2024.

Harper was fifth in the Women’s 3m Springboard final after qualifying from the semi-finals in 12th position.

That meant she was first to dive in every round of the competition but she put on a strong, consistent performance throughout and was only knocked out of the medal positions with two athletes left to go.

Harper, who won a bronze medal in the Women’s Synchronised 3m Springboard alongside Scarlett Mew Jensen on the opening day of the Games, finished with a total of 305.10.

She saved her best dive until last, scoring 65.10 for a forward three-and-a-half somersaults in pike.

Harper said: “I think I really tried to give it my best shot this afternoon and give it my all.

“If you’d have told me it last year that I was going to come away with a bronze medal and fifth in an Olympic final, honestly, I’d have no complaints.

Proud of efforts

“So I’ve got to remember that.

“And, yeah, I think this has really shown me that I want more and I’m not done in the diving pool.

“Going first, if it goes well for you, it it obviously puts pressure onto the people after you. I guess there was a bit of that going on and, honestly, I don’t mind going first – that’s fine for me.

“I feel proud of my efforts and all of the work that I’ve put in prior to this Olympic Games.

“Fifth is obviously a great result for me but it really does make me want to go again for four years’ time and, hopefully, I can come back for more.

“Honestly, that medal means so much to me so, yeah, I’m still really pleased.”

Grace Reid was also competing in the final alongside Harper and she finished in 10th place with a score of 275.85
