Amersham Swimming Club located in south Buckinghamshire is seeking an Assistant Head Swimming Coach. This role is offered on a fixed-term contract (we would also consider self-employed) with the potential to become a permanent employee position in future.

Amersham Swimming Club is a successful, competitive swimming club with a great track record of outstanding performance at county, regional and national levels. Our members range from those preparing to compete, through age group and youth competitions to masters. The affiliated swim school program feeds our academy section and connects with local schools. Squads primarily train at the new Chilterns Lifestyle Centre in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

Position Description

Purpose: The successful candidate will be responsible for leading specific competitive squads targeting Regional+ performance, mentoring coaches and collaborating with the Head Coach for the progression of the club as a whole. Applicants should be experienced in planning for multiple stages of development, leading a team, and planning competitions and race strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coaching competitive-level squads for up to 20 hours per week. (hours negotiable)
  • Leadership responsibility includes mentoring, planning and working with the Head Coach for club development and coach support.
  • Attend specified competitions including open meets, home competitions, County/Regional/National championships.
  • Planning and managing the development of individual athletes under your supervision.
  • Contributing to an effective coaching structure and engaging actively in continuous personal development.
  • Focus on increasing membership throughout the club, specifically at the younger age groups.

Person Specification

The Assistant Head Swimming Coach will have:

  • Practical coaching experience within a club environment covering a range of ages (including masters) and swimming abilities.
  • Minimum coaching qualifications UKCC Level 2 Coaching Award/ Swim England Coach Certificate.
  • Successful experience of coaching swimmers to a minimum of Regional competitive standard.
  • Knowledge of long-term development practices in line with the Optimal Athlete Development Framework and Swim England's progression pathways.
  • Ability to plan training sessions for competitive standard swimmers across sessions, cycles and the season.
  • Good communication skills in a variety of environments and media.
  • Well-developed administrative, financial and organisational skills.
  • Ideally strength and conditioning coaching experience and qualifications.

The Assistant Head Swimming Coach will be:

  • Committed to developing athletes in line with the club's vision.
  • Able to display and instil strong and inspiring leadership qualities.
  • A strong team player, capable of integrating their own ideas with those of the Head Coach and coaching team as a whole.
  • Capable of planning and delivering against identified goals.
  • A self-starter capable of creating new ideas and implementing them.
  • Available to coach morning, evening and weekend training sessions as well as attending regular competitions.
  • Committed to equity and diversity.
