Assistant Head Coach

South Croydon Swimming Club (SCSC), based in Croydon, has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and passionate Coach to support our Head Coach, Keir Graham, and take on the role of Assistant Head Coach with our coaching programme, continuing to drive our growing club forward.

The club, which is only 15 years old, has seen great achievements in its short life with successes at County and Regional levels, and in the past National Level.

SCSC is a SwimMark-accredited club and is committed to safeguarding all our members. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and must have or attend the UK Coaching Safeguarding and Protecting Children course.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • ASA Level 3 Coaching Award/Swim England Senior Swimming Coach Certificate or Level 2 Award/Swimming Coach Certificate as a minimum with the desire to work towards the Senior Certificate
  • RLSS NPLQ or NRASTC (or willingness and ability to obtain)
  • Be highly motivated and passionate about developing swimmers as people as well as athletes and enabling them to reach their full potential
  • Be punctual, reliable and committed to the club and its goals
  • Have knowledge of the long-term athlete development programme (LTAD)
  • Full UK driving license and the ability to travel to our training and competition venues across the UK
  • Right to Work in the UK

Main Performance duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Main role will be to assist our Head Coach, Keir Graham, deliver his training programme that engages, develops and fulfils all swimmers to their potential
  • To coach a competitive squad group across pools in Croydon, plus additional paid gala attendance as agreed with the Head Coach.
  • To assist our Head Coach and work with our team of coaches and oversee the development of all squads
  • Assist with organising the gala programme, attend galas and leagues to support swimmers, and liaise with and encourage swimmers to enter competitions suitable to their ability and advise swimmers what events to enter
  • Ensure that you are made aware of / take note of any special needs of the swimmers i.e. any medical conditions, physical impairments and fitness levels
  • To ensure all coaches record swimmer’s attendance on the OnDeck register 
  • To attend monthly coaches’ meetings and one-to-one coaches’ review
  • Actively participate in the evolution of the club’s strategic development plan and assume ownership of some of its priorities

Communication:

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • To be able to deal with issues, concerns, complaints or welfare areas in a professional and timely manner and where necessary escalate them to the appropriate individuals
  • To be able to communicate with parents, swimmers, coaches and committee in a professional manner and ensure all communication is carried out in a timely fashion 

Other:

  • To be aware of the pool operators' NOP and EAP and ensure all members are able to follow the providers' rules and ensure health and safety is paramount.
  • To be able to deal appropriately with emergencies, in following the EAP of the pool providers and ensure an incident report form is filled out with as much detail as possible for the club’s records as well as the pool provider's report. Ensure the report is delivered to the line manager or senior management.
  • To ensure attendance at staff training and CPDs organised by the club, as well as CPDs appropriate to personal development.

Reporting To:  Chairman and Club Secretary

Working Hours:  up to 12 hours poolside plus admin dependent on role
